About Patrick Worms

Patrick, a Cambridge-educated molecular geneticist, represents CIFOR-ICRAF—the Centre for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry—to policymakers, donors, and corporate partners in Europe and beyond. He is also the President of the International Union for Agroforestry (IUAF).

Patrick’s interests lie at the intersection of earth restoration and human security. His firm conviction, drawn from decades of pioneering research, is that integrating traditional and advanced land and ocean management knowledge offers the most promising pathway to rural prosperity, significantly helping to mitigate our impact on biodiversity and the atmosphere and, tantalizingly, fostering peace in a warming world.

Patrick is a Senior Fellow of EURAF, the European Agroforestry Federation, through which he ensured that agroforestry gained prominence in the EU’s recent Biodiversity, Farm to Fork, and Forestry strategies. He is a member of the Steering Committee of International Land Lives Peace, which works at the interface between land degradation and conflict, a Senior Fellow of the Global Evergreening Alliance, and serves on several advisory boards.
